New Jersey Family Law and Divorce Lawyers

At the Law Offices of Herman Osofsky in Clifton, New Jersey, we provide comprehensive legal representation in a variety of family law matters including the following:

  • Divorce: Our lead attorney, Herman Osofsky, is known throughout New Jersey for his work in hard-fought divorce litigation. He has the experience and resources to take on the most complex cases, and can also help you with smaller-scale divorce proceedings.
  • Domestic Violence: We help victims of domestic violence obtain restraining and protective orders, and also represent people who have been accused of domestic violence or spousal abuse.
  • Alimony: Alimony is often a highly contentious issue in divorces. Our attorneys know the case and statutory law and can advise how the law applies to your particular circumstances. Whether you are seeking alimony from your spouse or your spouse is seeking alimony from you, we work to protect your rights and interests.
  • Custody: You know what is best for your child, and you need an experienced divorce lawyer who will work diligently for the custody arrangement that is in your child's best interests.
  • Division of Property: Division of property during a divorce can either be relatively simple, as in the case of a small estate, or very complicated, as in the case of a complex estate with many assets obtained at different times through different means.
  • Child Support: As part of divorce cases, we carefully walk our clients through child support. We also handle modification actions and motions to enforce existing child support agreements.
  • Mediation: For people who are able to work together, mediation can provide an inexpensive, quick, and amicable method for accomplishing a divorce.
  • Paternity: Paternity tests have become very reliable with the advent of DNA testing. We can help legally establish the father-child relationship in a paternity action. Because we are experienced trial lawyers, we can also represent parties in a court proceeding regarding child support, custody and visitation rights.
  • Stepparent Adoption: On some occasions, remarried spouses will desire to change the legal relationship to their children based on either failure to support those children or other emotional matters. This office has provided for stepparent adoptions in those cases.
  • Premarital Agreements: People entering into a second marriage, and even those entering into a first marriage, often want to protect their financial assets from being subject to division in a divorce and want to preserve property for their children. A premarital (or "prenuptial") agreement has long been an effective tool to accomplish those goals. These agreements are particularly important when there is significant property, developed practices or businesses, and professional licenses that need to be protected. Prenuptial agreements (prenups) are also important when you want to protect children from a previous marriage.

In all of the above areas, we gladly assist colleagues by serving as consultants or taking referrals. Visit our contact page with any inquiries.
